Director of Communications - Job Description

Job type: Contract

Red Cypress Consulting seeks a Director of Communications Strategy to support its clients in leveraging strategic messaging and media to win progressive change. The Director of Communications Strategy will work with clients to develop communications and messaging strategies, manage media relationships and implement PR campaigns. They will also be a key partner in developing the company’s political and traditional communications portfolio.

This is an ideal position for an experienced communications team leader, media professional or communications consultant looking to get in on the ground floor with a rapidly growing, fast-paced, new company. Compensation will be on an hourly basis, plus commission for new business brought into the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships, identifying client goals and ensuring our work advances their missions

  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines and work plans

  • Provide expert strategic guidance regarding media relations, communications and messaging strategy

  • Manage relationships with the Red Cypress media list

  • Develop talking points, pitch new stories and op-eds and coordinate interviews

  • Facilitate communications strategy workshops and develop written guidance

  • Provide ad hoc support to Red Cypress team on other communications and digital strategy projects

  • Support Red Cypress team with business development, including attending networking events, developing proposals and pitching potential clients

Required Qualifications

  • Experience running communications programs for political campaigns, advocacy nonprofits or other progressive organizations

  • Experience managing and cultivating media relations

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to think strategically

  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities

  • Deeply held progressive values and passion for social justice

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with political campaigning or policymaking

  • Detailed knowledge of Louisiana politics and media

  • Deep understanding of anti-racism and anti-racist practices

  • Experience in immigration or criminal justice reform advocacy

  • Spanish fluency

Senior Digital Strategist - Job Description

Job type: Contract

Red Cypress Consulting seeks a Senior Digital Strategist to support its clients in leveraging digital technology to win progressive change. The Senior Digital Strategist will be tasked with running one or two national capacity building projects to help grassroots immigration and criminal justice advocacy organizations better adopt digital technology. They will also provide expert advising on technology use and digital campaigning strategy and best practices to other clients as needed.

This is an ideal position for an experienced digital organizer, campaigner or consultant looking to get in on the ground floor with a rapidly growing, fast-paced, new company. This position involves occasional domestic travel.

Responsibilities

  • Manage client relationships, identifying client goals and ensuring our work advances their missions

  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines and work plans

  • Provide expert strategic guidance regarding digital campaigning, organizing and technology adoption

  • Facilitate workshops and trainings to set strategy and adopt new technologies

  • Provide hands-on support to clients in their adoption of new tools and best practices

  • Support Red Cypress team with business development, including attending networking events, developing proposals and pitching potential clients
